Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases that primarily affect the axial skeleton, peripheral joints, and enthesis. It encompasses a spectrum of related conditions, including ankylosing spondylitis (AS), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and non-RX axial- spondyloarthritis. These diseases impose a significant burden on patients, healthcare systems, and society as a whole.

Radiology plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of spondyloarthritis. Imaging techniques, such as X-rays, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provide valuable insights into the structural and inflammatory changes associated with these diseases. Radiological findings, coupled with clinical assessment, help clinicians make accurate diagnoses, determine disease severity, track progression, and assess treatment response.

Given the increasing prevalence and impact of spondyloarthritis, as well as the evolving role of radiology in its management, the 1st Apulian OPINION International Congress on Spondyloarthritis and Radiology aims to bring together a diverse range of experts, to build a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the field.

Key Objectives:

  1. Promote understanding: The congress aims to enhance the understanding of spondyloarthritis, its subtypes, and the evolving diagnostic and classification criteria. It seeks to explore the underlying pathogenesis, immunology, genetics, and environmental factors associated with these diseases.
  2. Update on radiological techniques: The congress will provide comprehensive updates on the latest radiological techniques used in the assessment of spondyloarthritis. Experts will present advances in imaging modalities, interpretation guidelines, and novel imaging biomarkers, including the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  3. Optimize treatment strategies: The congress will focus on evidence-based treatment strategies for spondyloarthritis, including the use of biologic agents, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and emerging therapies. Radiological markers of disease activity and response to treatment will be discussed to enable personalized therapeutic approaches.

The International Congress on Spondyloarthritis and Radiology aims to bridge the gap between rheumatology and radiology, fostering collaboration, knowledge transfer, and clinical excellence. By addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field, this congress endeavors to improve patient care and outcomes for individuals with spondyloarthritis worldwide.
